Katori Takeshi 鹿取武司, 1949-

Katori_Takeshi_photo (14K)Born in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Katori entered the Kyoto Prefectual Ohki High School and studied oil painting. It was the influence of his art teacher, Jun Norimoto that convinced Katori to pusue art as a life work. In 1972, he entered the Fine Art Course of the Tokyo Gakugei University and began studying etching; by 1973 he had created his first mezzotint using a roulette. By 1976, Katori had abandoned oil painting and etching to produce mezzotints; in the same year, he entered a postgraduate course in art education at Tokyo Gakugei University. In 1977, Katori went to Europe and met Kiyoshi Hasegawa and Yozo Hamaguchi. Katori completed his postgraduate work in 1978 and soon began teaching at Bunka Women's University; in 1981 his first solo exhibition of mezzotints was mounted.
