Maki Haku 巻白, 1924-2000.

maki_photo (53K)Maejima Tadaaki was born in 1924 in Asomachi in Ibaragi Prefecture. However, when he started his formal art training, after WW II, under Onchi and Hiratsuka, Maejima took the name Haku Maki. The majority of Maki's early work is known for his inclusion of Chinese characters (kanji) in his paintings—often using the seal script version of them. Later, as his style developed, Maki became known for using a wide variety of artistic methods in his art.

To be born like the wind.
To live like the wind.
To die like the wind.
I want to be wind;
an invisible wind.

Alternatively:

Born like a wind,
Live like a wind,
Vanish like a wind.
I'd like to be a wind,
An invisible wind.
