Kōro 香炉 (incense burners)

Kōro may be used both in the tea ceremony (chanoyu 茶の湯 or chadō 茶道) and the incense ceremony (kōdō 香道). They may be made in a great variety of shapes, sizes, and from an array of materials—pottery, lacquered wood, metal, etc. For a partial listing of ceramic styles see Types of Japanese Ceramic Ware.
